Sooooo EXCITED to announce a fun challenge exercise open to all past Conquer Your Camera participants! (ALUMNI HOLLA!)
This was totally not my idea but was submitted by a class member on the reviews and suggestions card we always hand out at the end of the workshop. (Thanks Jeremy!)
I was very encouraged by the level of interest and response on our Facebook Page when I first mentioned the idea! I hope that you will all participate regardless of your current expertise because the heart of the challenge is three simple and equal parts:
1. Practice you might not do without an incentive! Use information you have learned but need to IMPLEMENT in order to KEEP.
2. Get those creative juices flowing! Getting out of the norm is AWESOME for releasing creative energy. Even if the challenge theme doesn’t float your boat – DOITANYWAY.
3. Learn from each other! I will choose finalists from the entries, then we will open up to voting HERE ON THE BLOG – anyone can vote including non-CYC! (We will not vote on Facebook but I’ll give you reminders there, etc.) Once we have a winner (HECK YEAH THERE WILL BE A PRIZE,) that winner will also have a featured blog entry showing the settings they used, lens choice, description of the setting, etc. And we all learn (even non-alum.) Everyone is HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY.
Okay so I think we’ll do this once a month as long as participation is good. Some ideas I’ve had for themes include: great outdoors, fast shutter, night photography, depth of field, pets, people, street photography, candid moments, macro/nature, abstract, timed exposure, emotions, silhouette… I could go on. But what I really hope for is to receive your requests (commenting below works or on Facebook) on themes you are interested in. For now we’ll start with something broad for our first theme.
INAUGRAL CHALLENGE (crowd goes wild.)
THEME: The Great Outdoors
HOW-TO-ENTER*: If you have taken the Conquer Your Camera workshop at any time please submit your photo (one per person) via email to angel@angelgrayphotography.com I will confirm it has been received so make sure you see that confirmation. Please send high resolution. If it is too large to email than it is probably larger than I need. Please include information such as: camera body, camera settings, lens choice and a summary of any post processing. (It’s okay if you edited the image but I do want to know how and would prefer no major alterations unless the theme is actually post processing.)
***I must have your submission by May 20th at midnight. This gives you roughly 10 days -plenty of time people!!***
I WILL CHOOSE SOME FINALISTS. I would like to have the option to choose however many I want here while keeping it to less than 5. Finalists will be announced on the blog just a few days after the submission deadline.
VOTING: These finalists will be posted to the blog (images only) and we will provide instructions on the Facebook Page for how to vote and when the voting closes.
WINNING: The winner of our first challenge will receive a $50 gift certificate to B&H Photo as well as MAJOR fame and the admiration of us all.
